Year 3 visit the Stone Age…

This week, Year 3 have begun our history topic, learning all about the Stone Age!

On Wednesday, we went back in time to appreciate a (Health and Safety standard) Stone Age campfire, which we used as a stimulus to write some fantastic sentences describing a setting. Why don’t you read some of our favourites below…

Dear Santa…

As we move closer to Christmas, it is important that we keep in mind what is truly important about this time of year. We all look forward to our turkey dinner…Image result for christmas dinner

and opening presents…Image result for christmas presents

but we must remember that Christmas wouldn’t exist without Christ!

Jesus was sent to this world to make it a better place, to make things fair for all, bring hope to the poor and happiness to the world.

As we look around our world today, so many ignore his message, with war and strife all around the globe.

So, as Year 3 write our letters to Santa, we’ve made sure we include a little thought for what Santa could bring to those less fortunate than ourselves, as well as what we would like to find under the Christmas tree.

Please read Year 3’s comments below to find out what we’re wishing for this Christmas.

Advent has come… Christmas is near…

Year Three are well and truly in the throes of Advent this year, and have even created a traditional Jesse Tree, using symbols of the earthly ancestors of our Lord, Jesus Christ as decorations, along with pieces of scripture about them! Look out for the apple representing our common ancestors Adam and Eve, the harp of King David and the hammer of Joseph, the humble carpenter who raised the King of the Universe.

There will be lots more Christmassy activities over the next couple of weeks, so keep a lookout on our blog for Christmas Art, Christmas writing and poems, Christmas fun and most importantly, lots of reminders that Jesus Christ will soon be born to save us all.

Science in Year 3

Year 3 had a very scientific week last week, as Wednesday’s Mad Science assembly was followed by an exciting Science experiment on Friday morning.

Our children designed and performed their own fair tests, looking at how changes to a paper helicopter affected the speed at which it fell to the ground.

The children looked at which variables we could possibly change (height of drop, weight of helicopter, length of helicopter ‘blades’ etc) and made a decision of which to change and measure. The children soon understood that to keep the test fair, every other variable had to be kept constant so that it wouldn’t affect the result!

The children lots of fun and performed some fantastic science, learning all the while! Well done Year 3!

Year 3 get FRESH!

This week, Year 3 produced a fantastic performance of their class assembly, The Fresh Samaritan!

The children did a fantastic job of getting across the message of Jesus’ Parable “The Good Samaritan,” with a modern twist, as the Fresh Samaritan!

The children had a great time and did a brilliant job. It’s fair to say though, that the children’s favourite bit was performing the “Fresh Samaritan rap” to the theme tune of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air!

The children and Mr Eccles & Mrs Buckley would like to thank all of the parents, grandparents and other family members who came to support the children in their performance and left such lovely comments in our assembly book.

Mr Eccles and Mrs Buckley would like to add thanks for helping the children learn their lines at home and providing costumes for those who needed them. Thank you!

For those unable to attend and enjoy, please watch the video below!

The Fresh Samaritan!

Now this is a story all about how,

a man got jumped and kicked around.

So let us take a minute, listen to us man,

while we tell you all the story of the Fresh Samaritan.

In Western Israel, born and raised,

on the road to Jericho he walked for many days.

Keepin’ it cheerful,

never being moany,

walking on his feet or ridin’ on his pony.

When a couple of guys who were up to no good,

beat him up and left him lyin’ in his blood.

A priest walked by but he got real scared,

and said “I knew that I should help him but I just never dared!”

A traveller was coming, but when he came near,

it was his enemy, Samaritan, headed over here.

If anything, the chances of help were pretty rare,

but the Samaritan was fresh so he offered love and care!

They pulled up to an inn about seven or eight,

and he said to the innkeeper “Give him food, I’ll pay you later!”

He paid for his lodging and he smiled at the man,

And there begins the story of the Fresh Samaritan!

Welcome to Year 3!

As we start a new year, it is always important to start out in the right way, as we learn new routines, get used to new teachers and, particularly in Year 3, adjust to being part of the Juniors instead of Infants!

For your information, in Year 3, important things you need to know about are…

PE – Monday (Mr Eccles) and Wednesday (Sports coach). It is very important children have a full PE kit in school at all times! White shirt, black or maroon shorts and black pumps. If your child wears ear studs, it is your responsibility to either ensure they are confident to remove these for PE, or to provide PE tape to cover them.

Snack – Tuesday and Thursday break time. In the Juniors, toast is available to buy only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please send your child with 20p on these days if you wish for them to buy toast. Mr Eccles will not collect this in!

Homework – given out on Friday to be in for next Thursday. There will be Maths and English homework each week unless there is a special reason. Please try to find some time during the week to help your children.

Spellings – given out Friday to be tested the following Friday. Spellings will be tested each week. The marked tests will be sent home in their Spellings Book for you to see, sign and return. Please try to find some time during the week to help your children.

Learning Log – given out on a Friday to be completed within a two week time period. Children love completing these tasks and I aim to make them something that the children will enjoy researching and displaying what they’ve discovered, so please find time to help them have fun learning about these topics!

Below, the children have all written comments about what they are looking forward to this year. Please take some time to read your child’s comment, and perhaps even comment with what you’re looking forward to this year too!
